Ms Fern Corns
Assistant Headteacher
I am one of the Assistant Headteachers and am also the Senior Curriculum Leader. I teach in Swallows (Year 5) three days a week.
Having been a teacher in Manchester for a very long time and involved in Senior Leadership since 2004, I moved to Brighton a little over 6 years ago to escape the gloomy weather. Whilst in Manchester, I have lead in most subject areas including the core subjects, my specialism being in the teaching of English and Cross Curricular teaching. I was a Lead practitioner in the latter through my 6 year collaboration in the innovative Museums and Galleries Project, where schools worked hand in hand with various cultural venues across the city to deliver a highly engaging curriculum based. This meant I worked across the whole of the city and in the wider North West including delivering bespoke training of fellow and trainee teachers. I have lead projects providing the very best learning experiences for children including working with Terry Deary at Manchester museum and in performing Macbeth with Year 4 at the Royal Exchange theatre.
I am a lifelong learner myself and this love of learning is my greatest passion.
I firmly believe that children have one chance at getting the very best education available to them, and am proud that at West Blatchington Primary and Nursery we strive to achieve this for all our children. I am so proud of the team that work here and the dedication they have. There are exciting times ahead for us as the school goes from strength to strength – I am so glad that I am part of that journey.
