PSHE

At West Blatch, PSHE education plays a key role in our curriculum by helping pupils form positive, equal, and consensual friendships and relationships. It also equips them with the skills needed to protect their own health and safety, as well as that of others, both now and in the future. The PSHE curriculum fosters personal development and encourages positive behaviours for learning, with a focus on promoting qualities such as kindness, respect, consent, resilience, and self-efficacy.

We follow the Brighton & Hove PSHE curriculum map, which is aligned with the DfE statutory guidance for Primary Relationships and Health Education, as well as the PSHE Association Programme of Study. This map helps schools meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 by promoting equality and challenging prejudice. It outlines how we cover the KS1 and KS2 learning outcomes, organized into topics, some of which align with SEAL (Social Emotional Aspects of Learning) themes. Each topic is designed to be taught in one PSHE lesson per week. Where Brighton & Hove PSHE Team resources are available for local schools, this is noted on the map, and these resources can be downloaded from BEEM at https://www.beem.org.uk/.
